AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The stabbing of a 23-year-old Palestinian American who advocates say was attacked near the University of Texas campus while riding in a truck displaying support for Palestine merits the label of a hate crime, Austin police announced Wednesday. Police said Wednesday that their Hate Crimes Review Committee had determined that the stabbing met the definition of a hate crime. A fight ensued, with Baker eventually pulling out a knife and stabbing Doar in the rib, the affidavit said. In Vermont in November, three college students of Palestinian descent were shot and seriously wounded while taking an evening walk in an attack that authorities are investigating as a possible hate crime. In that context, the “Now and Then” movie’s upfront billing of the track as the last Beatles song feels like a two-pronged rhetorical move. But the truth, ultimately, will lie not with any facts inherent to the universe of existing Beatles recordings. If you can make a Beatles single using ideas from two dead Beatles, then you can make one with ideas from three dead Beatles — or even, perhaps, from four. It reminds me of the Beatles without sounding like the Beatles — and why should it, when Lennon didn’t write it for them? But I suspect that, in this late project, the always-innovative Beatles are once again ahead of their time.

Many U.S. oil producers are pumping only enough oil to keep production flat and turning over more profit to investors. Shale gas producers have struggled all year and have not been able to reduce drilling fast enough to counter weak prices. But U.S. oil and gas producers are not looking to spend more, executives said. NOV's average earnings estimate for the fourth quarter was slashed by 7%, while pressure pumping provider Liberty Energy (LBRT.N)'s was trimmed by 3%. "At this point, we still are counting on the fourth quarter to be worse," said Rystad analyst Justin Mayorga.
